GCF Brings Mission to New York for UNGA week

Every September, New York City prepares its bustling streets to host one the most prominent events in the world: The United Nations General Assembly; gathering world leaders, government bodies, philanthropists, activists, and celebrities in one place to discuss the planet’s most pressing issues.

Just days after millions of young activists marched in thousands of cities worldwide to demand greater action on climate change, the 74th Session of the UNGA kicked off its agenda with the UN Climate Action Summit and the Sustainable Development Goals Summit.

The Global Citizen Forum led by its CEO, Talimka Yordanova, were also active throughout the weeklong events in the city, participating in panels and gatherings with the Forum’s partners, amongst which were the Cherie Blair Foundation, Web Summit, SAP Next Gen, World Identity Network, Global Goals, GVNG, Arctic Basecamp, The Female Quotient, and The Krim Group.

On Tuesday, September 24th, the Global Citizen Forum hosted their own gathering in partnership with Dentons at the remarkably charming Baccarat Hotel with over 100 inspiring and influential guests, which included Blackrock’s Mr. Mark Wilson, President of Water.org, Jennifer Schorsch, the incredible team from Togetherband and representatives from the World Economic Forum.

The movement to empower global citizenship is stronger than ever. GCF’s involvement at the UNGA represented more than gathering world leaders and celebrities to talk about creating a better world. It was about making a statement—that the only way to progress is through understanding that we all share one identity. And as global citizens, we are here to unlock the potential of human mobility, together.

We are excited for our next event— Berlin Wall Commemoration, on Nov 9, 2019.
