This International Women’s Day, H.E. Razan Al Mu

This International Women’s Day, H.E. Razan Al Mubarak – the first Arab woman world to head the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and now, one of the UN High-Level Climate Champions for COP28 UAE – calls on all of us to drive systemic change and nurture collective and equal leadership.
Stressing on the importance of women in leadership roles, H.E. Razan shares that “it would be easy, on a day like this, to pay lip service to nurturing female leaders. But we do need and want to do more than that. We need equal representation. We need to be sure the policies and solutions that we promote are not only co-created by women but also do not inherently exclude them.”

A very productive evening for the Global Citizen Forum team at the Palace of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
In attendance with us were Idris Elba, UN Goodwill Ambassador for IFAD, award-winning British actor, director, producer and humanitarian, and Sabrina Elba, actress and activist, whom we are thoroughly excited to welcome at the Annual Summit this year.
We took this opportunity to introduce and discuss the vision for this year’s Annual Summit with His Highness, which will take place this December in Ras Al Khaimah, under the patronage of His Highness and in partnership with with the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA).

In the presence of close to a 100 International, Regional and Intergovernmental Organizations, over 80 bilateral agreements have been made and high-level meetings held, and more than 300 sessions have been conducted at this year’s World Government Summit.
Whether its about climate change, educational reforms, or the ever growing frontier of technology, world leaders have now charted a path to address the most pressing challenges we face today.

Sharing his thoughts on his recent acquisition of Twitter, Elon Musk stated that “Twitter was doing too much to impose the values of San Francisco and Berkeley, which are somewhat of a niche ideology.” Instead, he believes that “social media companies should reflect the values of people.”
In a world that is becoming highly interconnected, there is no place for a single ideology – to thrive, we must learn to appreciate our differences and hold space for dialogue.
Elon envisions the future of Twitter as a platform where people can go to find the truth and what’s really going on. “I thought it was very important for there to be a maximally trusted, sort of, digital public square where people within countries and internationally could communicate with the least amount of censorship allowed by law,” he described.

The GCF family sends out our sincerest thoughts, prayers and condolences to everyone affected by the devastating earthquake in Türkiye and Syria.
Today, the death toll is being reported in the thousands, countless people have suffered injuries and an unknown number are still trapped in the rubble.
As Global Citizens, we are all interconnected and must offer help in times like these.
