VISION AND PURPOSE

Our guiding principles

The Global Citizen Forum is a social action platform built on a community of global champions committed to the mission and vision of equal distribution of global citizenship as a public good. Mindful of the vastness of the subject, at the GCF, we look at global citizenship through five adaptive loops which we see as the building blocks of the modern-day global village.

We run a series of events, workshops, experiences and trainings where we advance the subject of global citizenship underlining its positive impact and practical applications. In order for the GCF to bridge the gap between dialogue and action, we work on a set of deliverables for the upcoming year and we partner with one organization within each loop where we join forces in the quest for traceable, transparent and measurable impact.

Our Loops

GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

DIALOGUE
The Global Governance pillar aims to focus on governments and civil society’s ability to take stance and trigger policy changes with respect to the most pressing challenges global citizenship is facing today – forced migration and displacement, climate change and equal representation. We look into the ways in which governance and policy-making is evolving in order to keep up with rapid development and innovation.

ACTION
Within this loop we commit to engage governments and international organizations on the Global Citizen Tax initiative.

MOBILITY

DIALOGUE
Recognizing freedom of movement as a core component of global citizenship, within this loop we will focus on the current migration processes and the challenges, opportunities, and failures that exist within this space. Access must be a universal right for all where the power of positive governance, technologies and creativity are only a few of the tools that can help us move in that direction.

ACTION
By partnering with the Passport Index, we will work towards improving the state of mobility and the overall World Openness Score. Within this scope, we will work towards improving the Iraqi passport rank securing access to a larger number of countries for the Iraqi people.

IDENTITY

DIALOGUE
Within the Identity Loop we aim to explore the ways in which people’s identity is transitioning from one based on a single country, region or continent to one defined by equality, freedom and belonging to a shared global ecosystem. In a parallel reality, there are more than a billion people around the world that lack an officially recognized identity documents and are treated as “invisible”. Juxtaposed with the concept of digital identity, this becomes a stark example of the inequalities this sphere is dealing with.

ACTION
Our call to action goes for the “invisible” people with no access to identification where we aim to strengthen the agenda, raise awareness and push policies in this direction.

TECHNOLOGY

DIALOGUE
Artificial intelligence, blockchain and robotics are on their way to completely revolutionize the way we live. Their transformational power is immense and has the capacity to solve some of the greatest challenges global citizenship is facing today. Technological advances are changing the way we travel, our identification procedures and security at border crossings whilst creating the necessary preconditions for security measures that do not impede human mobility.

ACTION
As partners with leading technology providers, we will work towards enhancing access and education of young migrants and refugees across the globe.

CREATIVITY

DIALOGUE
The concept of borders is completely obsolete in the context of art, music and sports. The level of connectedness these spheres provide should serve as a role model for the level of mobility people should have access to. Through this loop we aim to raise the voice of global citizenship zooming into its rights but also underlining the responsibilities it carries along.

ACTION
Through the Youth Empowerment Initiative, we aim to secure a number of mentoring programs for young global citizens that look to develop their skills in any of the crafts supported by the GCF Ambassadors.

The GCF Loops represent the most critical aspects of global citizenship at the current point in time. They are selected on an annual basis with the sole purpose to serve as a bridge between the discussion element and the action element of the platform.

In order to ensure complete transparency and return on mission, the GCF partners with five different organizations which are active in the space of their allocated Loop and are committed to take new action, support ongoing efforts, and invest in further education and research alongside the Global Citizen Forum.
